Responsibilities

The Director of Patient Care Services (DPCS) is responsible for the overall direction of hospice clinical services. The Director of Patient Care Services establishes, implements, and evaluates goals and objectives for hospice services that meet and promote the standards of quality and contribute to the total agency and philosophy.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Coordinates and oversees all direct and indirect patient services provided by clinical agency personnel.
  2. Coordinates and assists the interdisciplinary team in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. Leads Interdisciplinary Group (IDG) meeting.
  3. Assists Clinical Managers with oversight of clinical teams.
  4. Processes HomeCare HomeBase workflow timely.
  5. Participates in the administrative on-call rotation.
  6. Assists the Executive Director/Administrator in the administration of the agency's budget.
  7. Interprets operational indicators to detect census changes and increases or decreases in volume that could impact staffing levels, revenues, or expenses.
  8. Participates in the hiring and ongoing evaluation of agency personnel.
  9. Oversees the maintenance of patient clinical records, statistics, reports, and records for purposes of evaluation and reporting of agency activities.
  10. Oversees supply management, including office inventory and supplies related to the provision of patient care.
  11. Responsible for orientation of new agency personnel, directly or delegate.
  12. Plans and implements in-service and continuing education programs to meet education and training needs of agency personnel.
  13. Assists with the evaluation of agency performance through the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Program to assure delivery of high-quality hospice services.
  14. Assures compliance with all local, state, and federal laws regarding licensure and certification of agency personnel and maintains compliance to the ACHC Home Care standards and company policies and procedures.
  15. Promotes hospice referrals in the health care community.
  16. In the absence of the Executive Director/Administrator, the Director of Patient Care Services will become the acting Executive Director/Administrator and will be vested with authority to act on behalf of the Executive Director/Administrator.
  17. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director/Administrator.
  18. Must adhere to the company attendance and reliability guidelines, which are an essential function of the job to ensure quality, and consistent patient care.

 

Qualifications

  • Registered nurse in the State with current licensure to practice professional nursing in the working state.
  • Registered nurse with a baccalaureate or higher degree in nursing or other health related field with three years of experience within the last five years in a hospice or home health agency, primary care clinic or health facility, at least one year of which was a supervisory or administrative capacity; or a registered nurse with four years experience within the last five years in a hospice or home health agency, primary care clinic or health facility, at least one year of which was in a supervisory or administrative capacity. (Health and Safety Code (HSC) section 1748(b); Standards of Quality Hospice Care (SQHC), 2005, section 5.3)
  • Demonstrates autonomy, agency, assertiveness, flexibility, and cooperation in performing job responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates the ability to deal effectively with patients, families, physicians, community resources, and general public.
  • HomeCare HomeBase (HCHB) experience preferred.
  • Maintains current state driver’s license and auto insurance.
  • Maintains current CPR certification.
